Christmas is almost here!

For many, the holiday season is filled with lots of fun activities, visiting friends and family, going to parties, and eating lots of delicious food.

But every year around this time, I also encourage loved ones to do something meaningful and special for people in their community.

All it requires is taking a breath in the middle of all that hustle and bustle, and defining how you want to spend your time and hard-earned income...on others.

We at Juice Inc. believe in giving back: it’s one of our key missions to “do good” in the local and larger-world community (and in fact, “doing good” is a big reason why Brady Wilson and I partnered to create Juice in the first place!).

This holiday season, the Juice family decided to purchase 10 turkeys and donate them to a community in Guelph where there is much poverty and food anxiety.

Of course, “doing good” can mean many things to many people. If you’re looking for inspiration that won’t break your bank (I know how expensive the holidays can be!), try one of these four ideas:

  1. Write a heartfelt letter (or email) to someone you haven’t seen in a while. You’d be amazed at how a few kind words can make somebody’s day (or even year!).
  2. Volunteer to help at a local food bank. Here’s how to find a food bank close to you in Canada, and a list of food banks in the United States.
  3. If you go to a party or dinner, inspire gratitude. Go around the room and ask everyone to share one thing they are thankful for. Science shows that expressing thanks and appreciation is good for us!
  4. Sponsor a child in someone else’s name. Rather than give a traditional gift, put that same amount of money toward changing the life of a child in need. Organizations like World Vision allow you to make one-time and monthly financial donations toward things like education, clothing, food and clean water.

I really do believe that it is better to give than to receive. With that in mind, I wish you a safe holiday season…and a prayer for peace on earth!
