Christmas is almost here!

For many, the holiday season is filled with lots of fun activities, visiting friends and family, going to parties, and eating lots of delicious food.

But every year around this time, I also encourage loved ones to do something meaningful and special for people in their community.

All it requires is taking a breath in the middle of all that hustle and bustle, and defining how you want to spend your time and hard-earned income...on others.

Juice Inc: Corporate ValuesYou probably have your written corporate values posted on your website, your Intranet, and somewhere on the walls of your workplace.

But what about your operational values: that is, how people truly operate within your organization?

Do your two sets of values align?

7 “team norms” to bring to the table for maximum results

As a leader, how do you expect your employees to behave on a daily basis?

Leaders often feel frustrated by team member’s behaviours that don’t align with their expectations.

The problem is that these expectations are often only implied, and therefore not explicit to employees.

Consequently, you’re probably not seeing the behaviours you seek. In fact, you may be seeing the exact opposite.

Timeliness is not a virtue (well, not to everyone)

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

But I’m not just referring to the holiday season. December is also a great time of year to:

Why is this so important?

So you can take steps toward becoming the person you were meant to be.

Have your employees lost their ability to think strategically?
That is, are they making quick fixes—but no longer looking at root causes?

Perhaps you, as a manager or business leader, are also having these problems on an individual level.

You used to have energy at work; but now you’re depleted. It’s not that you’re disengaged—you are committed to your organization—but you are having trouble moving things forward.

So what now?

Businesses frequently believe that, to create higher-performing workplaces, employees must:

  • be more committed and dedicated to the cause;
  • stay later and come in earlier, and
  • make more of an effort—that is, “try harder.”

But this doesn’t make sense!

Consider this in the context of running a marathon.

Brady Wilson

Brady Wilson couldn’t have timed the launch of his latest book, Beyond Engagement, any better.

Actually, Brady didn’t intend to—but his book’s availability has managed to coincide with the opening of a new movie based on an incredibly energetic and hard-working group of yellow, banana-obsessed cartoon characters.

We are, of course, talking about the Minions.

In this Chief Learning Officer article, blogger Kate Everson looks at the excitable, passionate, happy and committed Minions and asks: are these guys not the very type of employees every business wants?

According to Brady: absolutely!

Your employees’ engagement is important to you.

You’ve held employee surveys and town hall meetings. You’ve created focus groups and special committees.

And you’ve implemented program...after program...after program.

Despite all your efforts, you’ve come to this frustrating conclusion:

The more you manage engagement, the more disengaged, cynical and exhausted your employees become.

We call this The Engagement Paradox.

For the first year Charlie worked at your organization, he was on fire!

He had fantastic ideas, contributed readily at staff meetings, and even started a task force.

Three years later, Charlie seems…tired.

Gone is the passion he used to exert.

Yes, he continues to be a good employee—he works very hard, says great things about and is loyal to the company. Technically, he’s engaged.

But lately, Charlie’s performance is lacklustre.

He doesn’t go above and beyond the call of duty unless absolutely necessary. And he no longer takes initiative.

He’s simply going through the motions.

Sound familiar?

Happy Holidays from Juice Inc.!

As the holiday season approaches, I’d like to talk to you about three very distinct things: games, gobblers, and those little yellow guys from Despicable Me.

They all have something in common. Can you guess what it is? (My guess is “probably not.”)

Let me explain...
